Cairns is world famous for being the home of the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest. While both of these locations are an absolute must for any traveller to Cairns; your holiday should also ensure that you explore the great things to see and do around the town of Cairns. There are brilliant cafes, markets to explore and of course the relaxing beaches and park areas. It is impossible to create a full list of things to do on your Cairns holiday without missing some popular favourites but here are our top 3 (apart from the Great Barrier Reef & Daintree Rainforest):
Visit Kuranda: This mountain village is home to a vibrant arts community with daily markets selling a range of local made leather goods, jewellery and Aboriginal art. The best way to travel to Kuranda is with the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway which glides you above the rainforest canopy. Along the way you can stop at the two different rainforest stations to view the Red Peak and Barron Fails.
Experience Aboriginal Culture: The Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park allows you to explore the world’s oldest living culture. This authentic Australian Indigenous experience combines live performances, music, dance and storytelling.
